Muted Sunflower Nail Art

Hi all! Over the weekend I got the grand idea to paint sunflowers on my nails. A co-worker/friend of mine is obsessed with them (she even has a really cool sunflower tattoo) and we have been trolling the farmer's market near our office every week buying sunflowers for her to take home. So as you can probably understand- I had sunflowers on the brain. This nail art came out a bit more muted than I wanted and as a result I was on the fence about even posting them. They just weren't as bright and cheery as I'd wanted. This was mainly due to the fact that I couldn't find a bright yellow in my stash (though I knew I owned at least one) and partly because I made the mistake of using a dark background. Anywho after posting them on Instagram yesterday and sporting them all day at work I slowly fell in love with them and decided to go ahead and post them!

Tools used:

Wide nail art brush

Small detailing brush

Polishes used:

Revlon Emerald

(base color)

Sinful Colors Unicorn

Butter London Bumster

Wet N Wild Black

Wet N Wild White French Creme

Zoya Claire

Bundle Monster Oxford

KBShimmer Clearly on Top

Steps:

Lots and lots of freehand! I played with these until I got them to look more flower like. I started by etching out the petals with my two yellows, Bumster and Unicorn with my wide brush at an angle. I then went in with my detailing brush and more of both colors to add more detailing to the petal. For the center of the flowers, I used a combo of Black and Claire and used the tip of my detailing brush for the white pollen dots. I added more dimension to the flower petals using White French Creme and Oxford and finished with a coat of Clearly on Top.

So lo and behold yesterday I found my bright yellow polish! And now I can't stop thinking of re-doing these with a brighter background. Sunflowers! Sunflowers everywhere!

What do you all think? Do you like this more toned down sunflower look?
