February Birchbox Review

Waaay back in the day when Birchbox first hit the scene I was a subscriber. But I wasn't all that blown away by the boxes I was getting so I canceled my membership. I decided to give it another go after seeing a few reviews of recent boxes. I received my first box last week and wanted to share the contents and my thoughts on it with you all. var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-41312601-1']); _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'valiantlyvarnished.com']); _gaq.push(['_setAllowLinker', true]); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

(function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();

The February Box was curated by US Weekly magazine. I received the following items in my box:
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil
Harney & Sons Silk Sachet tea bags (2 flavors)
Harvey& Prince Hello Perfume Sample
OPI Sheer Tints Color- Tinted Top Coat Mini
Skin& Co Truffle Therapy Serum

Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Serum

Beauty Protector Protect & Oil

Harney & Sons Tea in Paris and White Vanilla Grapefruit.
I don't quite get what the connection was supposed to be with US Weekly and Birchbox because the contents don't really fit a "Hollywood" or "Celebrity" theme. As for how relevant the items are to my tastes...meh. The only things that I got truly excited about are the OPI Sheer Tint and the Harney & Sons tea (H&S is one of my favorite tea brands).  The hair oil smells yummy and so I will probably give that a try. The serum also smelled incredible (my cats really loved the smell of it)- I tried a bit on my hand and it left my skin feeling amazingly soft. Alas, I have really sensitive skin so I gave this to my mother.

Overall I would give this box a B. Not mind blowing but not completely awful either. I just expected a bit more since this box was a bit "hyped" due to collaboration with US Weekly. Birchbox will have to up their game on the next one though or I will have to reevaluate resubscribing.
