When you do as much nail art as bloggers do you can sometimes find yourself at a loss for ideas, so Sarah at Chalkboard Nails
, Rebecca at Rebecca Likes Nails

came up with the awesome idea of Lacquer Legion. Each month there will be a new prompt and January's prompt is Reinvention.
I'm starting to get in the mood for Valentine's Day nail art. I'm not a huge Valentine's Day person but I love V-day inspired nail art. This idea has been floating around in my head for awhile and I attempted it last week and absolutely hated the way it turned out. So I decided to "reinvent" the original design. See what I did there?
var _gaq = _gaq || ;
ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script'); s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
My original concept for this was a more distressed finish with painted on red hearts. Sound really pretty except for the glaring fact that I suck at painting hearts and they all came out looking like red wonky splotches on my nails. I was thoroughly bummed with the end result, but I loved the concept so much that I decided to take acknowledge and accept my heart-painting deficiency and re-work the design using my heart-shaped rhinestones.
I started with two coats of Elevation Polish Limestone, which was also the base color for my original design. I seriously need to get a backup bottle of this polish- it's such a perfect base color for nail art. I then mixed OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys and a bit nail polish thinner and painted the tree and branches using a detailing brush. I then applied HK Girl Top Coat and while wet applied my pink heart-shaped stones.
I am so glad that I decided to reinvent this design because the concept is so simple and yet so pretty. Be sure to check out the other Lacquer Legion posts today. Search for the hashtag #LLreinvention across social media.
