Let's Do the Time Warp Challenge Day One

Oops, I did it again. I joined another challenge! What can I say, I just really like them. Let's Do the Time Warp Challenge is a really fun idea dreamed up by Lindsay at Neverland Nail Blog. Today's challenge is "I Should Have Been Born In..." Now, I actually think I was born in exactly the right era. I love technology far too much to wish to have been born at any other time! There is a list of eras that I love (they all had something special), but I have always had an affinity for the 1940's. The fashion and aesthetics of that era were awesome. So I decided to do an homage to that time. My inspiration was taken from an awesome design I saw on The Nail Buff. She got the idea from the amazing Robin Moses. She does insane nail art. If you haven't seen her tutorials I highly recommend you check them out. My design isn't quite as detailed as theirs since I did not use acrylic paint. I also added a few twists of my own. This design makes me think of an old chest filled with old wartime love letters, pressed flowers and newspaper clippings.

I started with two coats of OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons. Once that was dry I applied newspaper that I had soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol and pressed onto the nails to transfer the print (this was my first time trying this method and it was crazy easy!). I then lightly sponged on Wet N' Wild Fergie Collection in Grammy Gold. Using my medium striper brush I painted on the swirls and branches, using Revlon Hot For Chocolate. For the flowers I used my small dotting tool and OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest. I mixed Ulta Jaded and OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow together for the leaves.

I really like how this turned out. It has so many layers to it and I love the antique patina!

Check out the other upcoming challenges!
