Hi everyone! Today is "J" in the ABC Challenge I and taking part in. I don't own a lot of "J" nail colors so I decided to do a "Jelly" sandwich. The art of the Jelly sandwich has eluded me for sometime. I own a lot of pigmented glitters and those don't really work for Jelly sandwiches. I also don't own a lot of sheer or "jelly" polishes either. While going through my stash I re-discovered OPI Too Hot Pink To Hold Em' which is a sheer(!) hot pink. I remember being really disappointed when I bought this color. I was looking for an opaque hot pink to wear on my nails and toes to a friend's wedding. So after swatching it I shoved it to the back of my stash and forgot about it. But tonight it rose up like a Phoenix and told me that it's time had arrived.
I used three thin coats as the base of the sandwich (even 3 coats didn't make it completely opaque- I still had nail line visible). For the glitter I used China Glaze Doll House, which is pretty pink round glitter in a clear jelly base. Doll House is one of my favorite glitter polishes of all time. This is the first time that I have successfully achieved the glitter sandwich look. And I didn't like it. Boo!! I know pink, glitter what more could a girl ask for, right? The problem is I am just not generally a dark pink nail polish girl. Every now and then one will catch my fancy but those are few and far between. I tend to like neons and soft pinks. But once again- my stash saved me. I decided to layer China Glaze Matte Magic top coat over the sandwich. Magic!! It's amazing how such a small tweak like texture can change your mind about a mani. The glitter looks like it's trapped in frosted glass- gorgeous! I love matte polishes but I pretty much never wear them so this is a nice change up for me.
And with matte top coat...
Love how the glitter peeks through the matte.
