Happy Accidents - Matte Abstract Nail Art

Sometimes you sent down with a definite idea or inspiration for nail art...and then things just kind of go pear-shaped. Sometimes these minor disasters turn into happy accidents. My original inspiration was very different from what wound up on my nails but I actually like what I came up with better!

The original inspiration was a groovy 60's pattern that resembled a lava lamp. I was drawn to the colors - a navy background with bright sky blue and lime green. This is where the similarities end. My pattern is a bit more abstract and random and I incorporated more navy blue to make the other colors pop.

Base color:
Butter London Royal Navy

Pattern Colors:
China Glaze Def Defying
American Apparel The Valley

I started with two coats of Royal Navy and then used my striping brush to apply random shapes of Def Defying and The Valley. I then went in again with Royal Navy to define the shapes more.  I applied a coat of Butter London Matte Top Coat to finish.

Halfway through this I almost stopped because it wasn't turning out exactly like the print inspiration but I decided to just go with it and see what happened. I'm glad I did because I love the end result. So yay for happy accidents!
