Polish Days: Feather Nails!

It's the first Polish Days of 2013! Our theme for the month of January is "Something New". Which is a very broad theme. It could be a color you've never a worn or a technique you've never tried. I opted to try a design that I have seen on various blogs and on YouTube that I had actually planned on trying at some point and just hadn't gotten around to actually doing. I had even bought the feathers! So this month's theme proved quite serendipitous for me!

For this design I used the tutorial that Sammy from The Nailasaurus made. I started with two coats of Essie Miss Fancy Pants. I then applied a thick coat of SV and applied the feathers I had picked out. A word of advice: pick out feathers that do not have thick stems. I learned this the hard way and had to redo two nails.  I also used nail clippers instead of scissors to remove the ends as I found these easier to control. Once I had cut down the feathers and filed and smoothed the edges. I then applied two more coats of SV.

I am really pleased with how this turned out. Despite a few hiccups it was pretty easy. I would love to try it with brightly colored feathers and a neon polish! May have to make another trip to the crafts store...that place has become dangerous for me lately!
